Landscape Mosaics
Similar landscape patterns, starting from several indicators of the structure and function of the landscape based on the cartography of habitats of Catalonia, were analysed. Finally, the most representative land mosaics were identified, using territorial pattern recognition techniques.

Landscape attributes for 2x2 km UTM grid
Based on several maps of land cover and use (Land Cover Map of Catalonia (CREAF 1993), Forest Map of Catalonia (DARP, 1990–1995), Land Use Maps of Catalonia (ICC 1992, 1997)) the most common landscape indicators (land cover percentages, diversity, fragmentation, number of land covers and polygons, attributes of size and shape, distances and cost distances, etc.) were calculated, using a 2x2 km UTM grid.

Classification by successive hierarchical cluster analysis based on landscape indicators included in the information layer "Landscape Attributes for 2x2 km UTM grid".

Land cover ecotones
For each polygon in the Land Cover Map of Catalonia, the length of contacts (ecotones) with the different categories of adjacent land covers was calculated, distinguishing between artificial or natural contacts.
